It was approved by the Wikimedia Board of trustees on October 3, 2011 and was the 39th chapter to be approved by the Wikimedia Foundation board. It was locally registered in Bangladesh on 9 June 2014 at Registrar of Joint Stock Companies and Firms as a non-profit foundation under the Societies Registrations Act, 1860 bearing the registration number S-11906 and official name Wikimedia Bangladesh Foundation.

584px-wikimedia_india_logoThe Wikimedia India Chapter (Registered Name: Wikimedia Chapter) is an independent and not-for-profit organization that was formally approved by the Board of Trustees, Wikimedia Foundation after the recommendation of the Chapters Committee in June 2010 and India became the 29th country to host a Wikimedia Chapter. The Wikimedia Chapter was formally registered as a Non-profit Society vide Registrar of Societies, Bangalore Urban District on 03 Jan 2011. Wikimedia India is an approved chapter by the Wikimedia Foundation for Wikimedians living in, or connected to India.

Wikimed543864_185118278278462_609570974_nia Nepal (Affiliated by the Wikimedia Foundation as Wikimedians of Nepal user group) is a community (Proposed Non-profit Charitable Organization) formed with the objectives of support, promote and develop free educational materials (media) in various languages spoken in Nepal including the lingua franca Nepali Language. The community has been set up since 17th July, 2010 and now has been recognized by the WMF as “Wikimedians of Nepal User Group”. It is in process of getting affiliation from the Wikimedia Foundation and registration in the District Administration Office (Kathmandu) Nepal.

Wikimedia Community User Group Pakistan is an officially recognised Wikimedia user group for Wikimedians living in, or connected to Pakistan. As an official Wikimedia affiliate, they support the goals of the Wikimedia Foundation, including the work of volunteers on Wikimedia projects as well as numerous other free knowledge initiatives. Their aim is to support, promote, and educate the general Pakistani public about the availability and use of free and open educational content, which includes the ability to access, develop and contribute to Wikimedia projects.

The initial objectives of this community includes increasing awareness of Wikimedia and its projects, introducing more people to the editing environment, and scaling-up the coverage on Sri Lankan history, geography, and other key topics. Future plans include holding edit-a-thons and collaborating with the local government to digitize and upload historic documents, photographs, and other information.
